FOREWORD

(A word from the Director)

It is with much pleasure that I once again on behalf of the Board of Governors, Management and Staff of the Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) present to you the 2008 Management Training Programme (MTP).

Excellence in management and performance are in demand today although they are in short supply. No organization, public or private, can function satisfactorily without effective management at all levels. The key to effective management lies in appropriate education, training and re-training in institutions and practically on the job both on-the-job and off-the-job.

This brochure outlines the various training programmes scheduled for the year 2008 which aim at developing the human capital in both the private and public sectors of the economy for effective performance.

In order to meet the requirements of top management training needs, two-day workshops in Corporate Strategic Planning, Labour-management relationship, Report writing and Presentation Skills, Target Setting for Managers and Effective Time and Stress Management have been included in the programme.

The need for improved productivity at all levels of activity has necessitated the MDPI to undertake a Productivity Awareness Survey of the perceptions of Ghanaians about Productivity. Productivity indices are also being established for a number of sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

Our consistent dominance in the Human Resource development, consultancy services and Productivity Improvement programmes is reflected in the quality of our service delivery.

In addition to our regular courses published in this booklet, MDPI has competent and highly skilled staff to respond to the training needs of individual organizations as In-Plant or In-House training as well as render consultancy services at any point in time. In-Plant Training and Consultancy services can be carried out at any venue of the customer’s choice.

MDPI continues to attract participants from the sub-region - The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Togo and Benin. We have conducted tailor-made (“customized”) training courses in The Gambia for The Gambia Telecommunication Company (GAMTEL) and The Gambia Cellular Phone (GAMCEL) with success. Indeed, demand for our In-Plant Training in Ghana is growing rapidly. We therefore wish to encourage you to patronize our In-Plant training.

Finally, I take this opportunity to thank all our numerous customers on behalf of the Institute for your continued support, contributions and patronage. I wish to assure you of our commitment to give you value for your monies. Let us work together this year 2008 so that it will be a productive year for all of us.
